I don’t even really know what I want to say. The only thing that I know for sure is my spirit is absolutely shattered. I am not writing this from a certain side, or with a personal view, or from a member of a band that has history of singing about the state of the world and the USA from our eyes.
I am writing this as a deflated American citizen.
Its weird…I knew this was happening, we all did for quite some time now. But its like when a girlfriend or boyfriend you love, breaks up with you, and it doesn’t hit you until they are moving out of your house. I knew it would effect me, but I didn’t think it would this much.
As much as I hate to say it, after everything that happened with Michael Brown and the police, I think the worst thing that has come up is the way people are handling it, out side of Missouri.
“Your stupid, who gives a shit, he was doing his job!” (yes, I know I used the correct “your”)
“Oh people pretend to care so they can loot!!”
“If it was a white guy that died, nobody would care!”
A kid is dead at the hands of the police. Recently a 12 year old in Ohio was killed at the hands of the police. What the fuck are we even talking about?
Nobody can debate about it, and everyone has to be on the defense or offense. Everyone is arguing. Division between the people. The last thing that is needed to be dismantled, is the people. That is what I always thought would be the strongest….what I see every day, when we get on stage and sing our songs to a room full of united people, all there for one reason. Unity, and strength in numbers.
Now all I see, with my friends, people I know, people I looked up to and strangers… is division.
“People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people”
At this rate, don’t know how scared they will be in the future.
